ATELIER LYOTARD : UNIQUE JEWELS INSCRIBED IN THE SLOW FASHION APPROACH

How can we consume better and more fairly, even in the jewelry field? How can we continue to adorn ourselves with our most beautiful finery while preserving our planet? How to master the ecological impact of jewelry creation, while preserving their aesthetics?

So many questions to which more and more craftsmen – as Atelier Marlène Lyotard – respond by proposing jewelry made of noble materials, handmade and which are part of the eco-responsible approach of the slow fashion.

Far from the jewels made of bricks and mortar, the slow jewelry makes the most of the pure lines, the chic design and the noble materials which gain in beauty and elegance as soon as one looks at the ecological and ethical commitments which govern their creation process.

Slow fashion : how does it work?

In direct opposition to fast fashion, slow fashion is an approach that is part of a more thoughtful, sustainable and responsible consumption. More often used in the textile industry, its place is just as important in the jewelry industry.

Definition and challenges

Born in the 90’s, the slow fashion movement attacks the creation process and the consumption mode. Its main goal is to give value back to the product by focusing on quality rather than quantity.

In our fast-paced societies, our consumption patterns are pushed to follow the same pace: consume more, faster, cheaper… However, given the current environmental and human challenges, it is now essential to review our way of being, creating and consuming.

And this is the global stake of the slow fashion approach on the whole creation process: to offer a sustainable alternative, respectful of the environment and of all that composes it.

This requires a manufacturing process that respects the raw materials (choice, origin, treatment…), the manufacturing conditions (working conditions, better remuneration…) and the production sites (ecological impact, deforestation…).

Buy less but buy better” is how we could summarize the eco-responsible movement that drives the slow fashion concept. To this adage, economic, environmental, ethical and human issues are added.

Advantages and inconveniences

Growing slowly in the shadow of fast fashion, the slow fashion way of working is struggling to become known. However, this ethical fashion has many environmental and human advantages.

Indeed, by using organic, renewable and recyclable materials, slow fashion contributes to the preservation of the fauna and flora of our planet, and to the well-being of the humans who populate it. Thanks to its slower manufacturing process, it controls its productions (unique pieces), thus reducing waste, overproduction and waste. It allows the improvement of the working conditions of the human actors of the chain, favors a better remuneration and decent working hours…

However, in front of these arguments with a positive impact are directly opposed the reflective disadvantages of our current way of life.

Indeed, one of the arguments that comes up most often when comparing slow fashion and fast fashion is the higher cost of the former. Then come its slowness of production and its discreet place on the market.

But these disadvantages can quickly be countered since they can be explained by a mode of operation that guarantees fairer remuneration and working conditions, that relies on artisanal know-how and quality products that respect the environment, and that chooses to invest in renewable materials and in its workers rather than in advertising propaganda…

And if the slow fashion struggles to be the dominant mode of consumption today, we can not deny that this one, unlike the fast fashion, is the most advantageous for us, the future generations, the environment…

Atelier Lyotard: when jewelry combines aesthetics and ethics

Production method, made in France, choice of responsible materials… At Atelier Marlène Lyotard, we have at heart to offer you unique jewels, respectful of our commitments and of the planet, for a sustainable, aesthetic and ethical jewelry.

Production and choice of materials

Far from mass production, Atelier Lyotard has chosen to control the environmental impact of its production chain from A to Z, by choosing to create only unique pieces or in small series, and in short circuit since all our suppliers are based in France or in Europe.

Moreover, we have chosen to use silver for all our creations, a material that is recycled and infinitely recyclable, particularly thanks to the technique of casting. This artisanal technique is based on the use of rubber molds, in which the molten metal (here silver) is poured, which takes the defined shape of the model and then solidifies. It offers the advantage of reusing the mold created or transforming it to create a new model, avoiding any waste or overproduction of waste.

Unique, handmade jewelry made in France

From the permanent collections on order, to the personalized jewels to answer your desires, all the creations that the Atelier Lyotard presents to you are unique and hand made in our workshop, in Chambéry.

Clean, modern and delicate lines, recycled and sustainable materials… we pay particular attention to the creation of our jewelry so that it meets the requirements of a sustainable and eco-responsible artisanal jewelry.

Our choice of materials, even precious ones, is not insignificant: silver can be recycled and transformed ad infinitum; nor that of our suppliers: in France or in Europe. Moreover, the handmade and the “made to order” guarantee an optimization of our stocks, since nothing is made without a preliminary validation of the order, avoiding waste and a useless and energy consuming overproduction.

In each of its creations, Atelier Marlène Lyotard wants to show that handcrafted jewelry can be part of a slow fashion approach, which meets your expectations, while making no concession on the quality of the product.
